The City People’s Committee has decided to allow the suburban elementary and sixth grade levels to switch to online learning from February 28.
On the morning of February 27, at an online meeting with the Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control in Hanoi, Director of the Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong said that 15/18 suburban districts and towns proposed to switch from school to school. directly online with grades 1-6 to ensure the safety of the children (when they have not been vaccinated). The Department has submitted a proposal to the City People’s Committee for decision.
In the afternoon of the same day, the Hanoi People’s Committee agreed with the proposal to stop direct schooling with more than 500,000 students in grades 1-6 in 18 districts and suburban cities from tomorrow until further notice.
According to the latest assessment of the epidemic level, Hanoi has 74 commune and ward-level units at the third level. The city has more than 10,000 cases of Covid-19 per day. A survey by the Department showed that, over the past time, the rate of children infected with Covid-19 was approximately 10% of the total number of infections, equivalent to more than 17,300 children. In which, nearly 600 children have to be treated at hospitals, accounting for 3.4%.
Last week, the number of Hanoi students going to school directly decreased. The high school block decreased from over 90% in the first days to over 75%; more than 77% of the lower secondary school go to school; Primary school students in the suburbs are 79%.
Grades 1 to 6 in 18 districts, direct learning from February 10. As of February 25, 45.2% of elementary and sixth grade classes in suburban areas had to switch to online.
The reason is that the number of Covid-19 infections in Hanoi is over 10,000, of which many are students and teachers. Many parents are not reassured that they should let their children learn online at home.
At many schools, the number of F0 and F1 accounts for more than half, forcing the administrators to switch these classes to completely online learning. Many principals said they are facing unprecedented pressure to manage and organize face-to-face learning when there are not enough teachers.
On February 23, the Department of Education and Training is expected to propose to the city for students in grades 1 to 6 in the inner city to return to school in March. According to the old plan, elementary and sixth grade levels in the inner city of Hanoi could return to school. back to school from 2/21. However, due to inclement weather and low parental consent, the City People’s Committee decided to postpone face-to-face classes with 400,000 students in grades 1-6 in 12 inner city districts.
Currently, Hanoi only has students from grades 7 to 12 studying directly, from February 8.
